What I always take with me on my travels
Some of the gadgets I need for my out-of-town trips
When planning a trip, in addition to travel (plane, train or bus) and accommodation (accommodation and hotels), you also need to plan your suitcase.
I tend to take the bare essentials with me for those days on the road.
- Paper tickets and photocopies of passport and documents
Ok we are in 2023, long live technology… But imagine different “movie” situations: you lose your phone, it is stolen, the battery burns out, you leave it at home and you only notice it at the airport… As they say from my parts “paper sings”.
In fact I have an endless collection of paper tickets at home and I also keep them as a memory ; )
NEVER SAY NEVER
2. Emergency numbers and important addresses
Emergency numbers of friends and relatives residing in that country and addresses of embassies and consulates in the area of my hotel/accommodation. Possibly handwritten on a small pocket diary (to return to point one and the technology)…
3. Disposable bed sheets
Wherever you go anyway it’s not the bed of your house … Or even on a night train with sleeping car. Or whether you go to a run-of-the-mill last-minute hostel or hotel that has poor hygiene or neglect
4. WC tablet cover
Always returning to the previous point, besides the bed, even the bathroom is not that of your home, and therefore it is always better to keep an eye on it.
Hygiene is an important part of a long and peaceful journey…
5. Lactic ferments for the stomach and pain relievers for the belly
The bag with essential medicines is a must on my travels! Especially outside Europe, where you don’t eat the foods of the old continent…
Like during my trip to India where lactic ferments were a lifesaver… and if you don’t have those, remember the covers for the toilet (it will be a related consequence).
6. Pocket backpack
Great for avoiding overpaying for baggage on the plane and overloading hand or checked baggage…
7. Emergency light
I always carry a small portable LED light with me, for contingencies or emergencies.
8. Multi USB socket
To be able to charge power banks, phone, pc and headphones during the night, in one go… it’s convenient, trust me!
9. Few but useful clothes
Space-saving linen or cotton sweaters. Laundromat card so that every 2–4 days I wash used clothes and don’t make mega stocks of smelly used clothes
10. Paper maps
Again with reference to the beautiful point one, paper is always better. But studying how to read it and orient yourself is a separate chapter!
